Frequently Asked Questions

Q. "How do I know if I need the 495-5517-00 flush valve with holes or without holes?"
A. Toilets made BEFORE the mid 1990's used the 495-5517-00 flush valve WITH holes. Toilets made AFTER the mid 1990's used the flush valve WITHOUT holes. Currently the 495-5517-00 WITH holes has been replaced by the 495-5517-00 WITHOUT holes.

Q. "Will the 1B1X-WF Fill Valve work in my toilet that originally had the same type of fill valve but with a diverter?"
A. Yes. The diverter was a type of water saver the manufacturer designed. The purpose of the diverter was to allow water to flow into the bowl until the bowl was full and then stop the flow to the bowl and divert that water flow to help fill up the tank faster. When the toilet was flushed, water not only flowed through the diverter but also flowed into the tank through the tank tube attached to the side of the fill valve. When the diverter eventually diverted the water to the tank it allowed the tank to fill up faster thereby putting pressure on the tank ball to then shut off the fill valve. If you install the 1B1X-WF fill valve you will just put the tube into the hole for the bowl flush, and water will flow until the tank fills up through the tank tube.
