Frequently Asked Questions
Q. "How do I determine the overall lengths of the hose clamps you offer?"
A. Take the largest diameter shown for a given clamp and multiply times pi (3.14) to get an approximate length.
Q. "You say these are marine grade, so I can use them underwater on my boat, right?"
A. These are top quality, all stainless steel hose clamps perfect for corrosive applications exactly like underwater on a boat. Just remember, however, that underwater on a boat you'll always want to double clamp (use two clamps) and make sure both clamps are solidly over hose and the shaft underneath.
Q. "You mention that these are worm gear hose clamps. What and how does a worm gear work?"
A. Worm gear clamps consist of a threaded rod, a housing and a band.
The threaded rod is in fact a slotted hex screw. The threaded rod portion of the hex screw is encased inside the housing while the slotted hex screw is allowed to be accessed outside of the housing. The housing with the threaded hex screw surrounds one end of the band and is made to be intertwined into the band. The slotted hex screw turns freely inside the housing and the housing is made with an opening with just enough room to allow the other end of the band to be slid inside of it forming a circle. The length of the band is made to have precision cut slits that will align with the slotted hex screw as the band slides through the bottom of the housing and engages with the band slits. As the screw is turned clockwise it forces the band slits to move through the housing and begin to tighten the band. Subsequently, if the screw is turned counterclockwise it will loosen the band.
