Frequently Asked Questions
Q. "What is the difference between the Burmese Teak and Plantation Teak?"
A. The manufacturer states plantation teak is FSC (Forest Stewardship Council) certified and comes from trees harvested from an actual plantation of younger Teak trees, and use only the heartwood of the tree. Plantation Teak has all the same qualities of old growth Burmese Teak but it is a little lighter in color. Heartwood teak provides an elegant piece with unique grain patterns and a beautiful rich color giving any area an immediate WOW factor. The high silica content in teak makes it an ideal wood to use when a slip resistant surface is needed. The natural oil makes the wood resistant to mold and mildew. Burmese teak is made of pure heartwood from mature Teak trees grown in the Indonesia/South East Asia region.
Q. "I would love to order one of the custom shower mats, but my shower floor slopes down to the drain. Will my shower mat be stable and secure?"
A. According to the manufacturer, these mats rest on a least three wooden "feet" that run the width of the mat. These feet have a premium non-slip rubber strip bonded to them that compresses and grips the shower floor in six spots, creating a safe, comfortable , stable place to stand, while still allowing water to drain effectively.
Q. "How does the water drain off the mat?"
A. Actually, the water drains right through the mat. These mats are built with 1/8-inch spaces between the slats so that water drains right through to the shower drain. In addition, the legs of the mat are situated so as not to interfere with drainage.
Q. "Will the mat slide around or move on the wet shower floor?"
A. According to the manufacturer, the bottom of each floor mat features germ-free rubber strips to keep the mat stable and slip-resistant while showering.
Q. "Will the mat stain my marble or tile shower floor?"
A. No. One of the great things about teak is that it's rich color does not have to be enhanced with dyes or stains, so you get a great-looking mat that will not discolor your fine shower surfaces in any way.
Q. "Do I have to worry about mold or mildew with my in-shower mat?"
A. No. Teak is renowned worldwide for its resistance to mold, mildew and rot. It is also germ-free and all our mats are sanded smooth for maximum comfort against your feet.
Q. "How do I maintain my teak product?"
A. These teak products are as close to maintenance free as you can get. They resist mold or mildew and will maintain their beauty whether finished or unfinished. To maintain the finished look is no different than polishing your wood furniture. Every few months simply apply teak oil to the surface of your product with a cloth. This process takes only a few minutes and will renew the finish on your teak product. Of course, you can choose to let the teak age naturally. In time the teak oil will dissipate and the teak's natural oil content will continue to ward off mold and mildew. For information on the care of teak, click on our page.
