Frequently Asked Questions

Q. "Why must I purchase a new bonnet nut if I purchase the V6005 cartridge?"
A. You will need to purchase a new bonnet nut #V4269 if your valve was made before August 6, 1992. Those valves used a slightly longer cartridge that has long been discontinued. The original bonnet nuts #V8212 were made deeper than the #V4269 bonnet nuts. The V6005 cartridge is approximately 1/8" shorter than the original discontinued cartridge and the original bonnet nuts for those faucets will not tighten the new #V6005 cartridge correctly into the valve. The #V4269 bonnet nuts will tighten the current #V6005 cartridges into the valve with the correct tension needed for proper operation and leak prevention.

Q. "Why are these faucets called Back to Back?"
A. They were designed so if you had two bathrooms and the showers in the two bathrooms were back to back in the wall you could run one cold line and one hot line to both faucets without having to crisscross the water lines. The hot and cold lines could be reverse mounted to either one of the valve inlets and the correct hot and cold output could be made by adjusting the stop bushing and the maximum temperature stop after the piping and faucet installation was completed.

Q. "My handle has the number V7880 stamped into it but I don't see a replacement handle with that number on your website?"
A. The V7880 handle is one part of the V7800 handle. The V7800 handle consists of two parts, the V7880 handle and the V7881 handle insert. The V7880 handle is not sold separately and will not attach to a Valley stem unless used in conjunction with the V7881 handle insert.

Q. "Should I use some pipe dope or thread sealant tape on the threads where the bonnet nut threads onto the valve?"
A. You should never use thread sealant tape or pipe thread compound on any threaded faucet valve parts. Single control faucets are designed with o-rings, fiber washers, and rubber seals to prevent leaks. When the proper parts are used, in the correct places, no other sealants of any type are needed.
