  • 1/4" Brass Compression Sleeves are used with 1/4" O.D. copper tubing.
  • Brass compression sleeves seal the copper pipe to the compression fitting.
  • A 1/4" brass compression nut is put over the outside of 1/4" copper tubing with the female threads facing the end of the coppper tubing. A 1/4" compression sleeve is then placed to slide over the copper tubing. A 1/4" compression fitting is then pushed onto the copper pipe. The sleeve and the nut are then pushed toward the compression fitting until the sleeve touches the compression fitting. Tighten the nut clockwise to cause the compression sleeve to be squeezed between the fitting and the nut. As more pressure is applied to the nut, the ends of both sides of the sleeve dig slightly into the pipe on both sides of the sleeve, causing the sleeve to be compressed on to the tubing. The water seal takes place as the outside of the sleeve comes into contact with the inside of the nut, and at the same time, on the inside of the fitting on the other side. The sleeve is effectively sealed on both sides when it is properly squeezed between the nut and the fitting and compressed onto the tubing. Please note that over tightening the nut will cause a leak.
  • PTFE tape or pipe joint compound should never be used on compression threads. The use of those type of products on compression threads will prohibit the compression sleeve from sealing properly and ultimately causing a leak.
