Frequently Asked Questions
Q. "One of the descriptions of your Premium Safe Drinking Water Hoses says it is 20% thicker than most garden hoses. Does that mean these hoses weigh a lot more?"
A. The Premium safe drinking water hoses may weigh a little more than a standard hose but we do not believe they weigh a significant amount more. The 50 ft. Premium Safe Drinking Water Hose weighs 7.444 lbs., the 35 ft. hose weighs 4.636 lbs., the 25 ft. hose weighs 3.561 lbs. and the 10 ft. hose weighs 1.67 lbs.
Q. "What does UV stabilized mean and what is the benefit for me?"
A. It means protective chemicals are added to the exterior hose material during the manufacturing process to help keep the hose from degrading due to the effects of exposure to ultra violet radiation from the sun. These UV (ultra violet) additives act like a sunscreen and will help your hose to last longer by protecting it from premature warping or breakdown caused by sunlight.
Q. "Can I use these hoses with hot water?"
A. Per the manufacturer, both the 'Premium' and 'Reinforced' drinking water hoses can only withstand temperatures up to 100° Fahrenheit. If your water will be hotter than that, we recommend purchasing a hose specifically designed for hot water. However, please be aware that most hot water hoses are engineered for commercial use and so may or may not be suitable for use in drinking water applications.
Q. "I am interested in purchasing the 75 ft. 'Reinforced' hose but in some places I have found the pressure to be higher than 75 psi. The 'Premium' hose can handle more pressure but is it available in a 75 ft. length?"
A. We are sorry, but the longest length the Premium hose is available is 50 ft. If the water pressure is higher than 75 psi we recommend you use a pressure regulator to lower the water pressure so you can use the hose of your choice.
Q. "I'm hearing a lot about lead-free these days. What does that have to do with plumbing products and how does the new lead-free legislation affect me?"
A. Basically, the law revisions to the Federal Safe Drinking Water Act implemented Jan. 1st, 2014 require plumbing products that come in contact with drinking water to be essentially lead free (less than 0.25% weighted average). For further information about how the law determines what is lead free, rules regarding which plumbing products must be lead free, and who these laws will affect, please click here.
