Frequently Asked Questions
Q. "How do these cutter heads attach to the Flexible Shaft?"
A.The cutter heads for 5/16" Flexible Shaft (rod) use set screws on the cutters to tighten onto the leader.
Before attaching any cutter, first unplug the machine from the power source.
- For machines using 5/16" Flexible Shaft; Use the supplied Loctite® any time the set screws in a cutter are tightened onto a leader. Never use permanent thread locker. See manufacturer's website for proper use.
- Before attaching leaders, chains or cutters, always be sure the machine is turned OFF and unplugged.
- Inspect the leader for damage. DO NOT use a leader if it is damaged.
- Loosen the set screws in the cutter so that the leader will pass through.
- Insert the leader into the cutter until it stops and tighten the set screws
- Make sure that at least 1/2" of shaft is exposed
Attaching Chain Cutters:
- Slide the chain cutter and leader protector (when applicable) onto the leader.
- Slide one end of the chain cutter until it is flush with the end of the leader and tighten the set screws.
- While keeping the chains from twisting, slide the opposite end the of the chain cutter closer to or further away from the other end in order to achieve the desired cutting size and tighten the set screws.
- Make sure that at least 1/2" of shaft is exposed beyond the end of the chain cutter.
Q. "Can the ClogChoppers be used to remove polyester CIPP liner from the insides of drain pipes?"
A. The ClogChoppers were designed for clearing the drain to prepare for installation of liners such as CIPP (cured-in-place pipe liner). They have not been tested for cutting out drain liners themselves so the manufacuter does not recommend them as a suitable tool for removing these types of liners.
