Frequently Asked Questions
Q. "I'm hearing a lot about lead-free these days. What does that have to do with plumbing products and how does the new lead-free legislation affect me?"
A. Basically, the laws implemented Jan. 1st, 2014 require plumbing products that come in contact with drinking water to be "essentially lead free" (less than 0.25% weighted average). For further information about how the law determines what is "lead free", rules regarding which plumbing products must be "lead free", and who these laws will affect, please view our page.
Q. "Why is a 'Pool Shower' needed?"
A.There is a national health issue with many documented cases of bacterial infections at public pools and water parks throughout the world. A product such as an outdoor pool shower is a much needed item for pool areas in order to keep our loved ones safe. Besides washing away bacteria, one can also remove lotions, lint, dirt, sand, or other debris which helps keep pool water and hot tubs cleaner and easier to maintain.
Q. "Where are these beach pool showers normally installed?"
A.Our showers have been installed outdoors in facilities such as fitness centers, scuba diving schools, lakes, resorts, hotels, yachts, cruse ships, campgrounds, public pool shower stalls, indoor pools, YMCA's and residential backyards. One of the newest fads for homes is an enclosed outside shower. These are not only used for rinsing off salt or chlorine water, but also for outdoor bathing.
Q. "Can I run both hot and cold water to any of these units?"
A.Yes. The WMHC-445 and the HC-4000-ADA pool showers are designed for use with hot and cold water supplies. For units that have only one supply line you can still enjoy warm water by adding a thermostatic mixing valve, which will blend incoming hot and cold water lines and keep the temperature stable for the single supply line shower.
Q. Some of the showers and shower heads shown are made from brass, some are stainless steel, and other units contain both brass AND stainless steel. What's the difference and how do I choose the right one for me?
A. The material you choose is really a personal choice as there are benefits to each. These pool showers are made of quality, commercial grade chrome-plated brass and stainless steel - meaning that some components (most notably valves and some shower heads) will be made of brass, while the body and other pieces are made of stainless steel. In general, brass is less expensive and better suited to certain applications (i.e., valves), while stainless steel (although more expensive) is more resistant to corrosion and will last much longer - it pays for itself in the long run. We recommend choosing whatever style outdoor shower or outdoor shower head you like and then considering your climate. The manufacturer recommends stainless steel if your home or business is near the ocean, as saltwater will eventually corrode even plated brass that is exposed to the elements. However, since these units do have standard 1/2" NPT connections, many brass elements like showerheads can easily be replaced with whatever you like. Additionally, it is recommended you winterize the unit when temperatures are consistently below freezing (32°F) by removing valves and shower heads to provide the longest-lasting service and avoid damage to these components.
Q. "What kind of warranty do these outdoor showers have?"
A.Stainless steel components have a 10 year manufacturer's warranty. The valves (as with any mechanical device) will eventually need some service. If the valve breaks or is faulty within one year of you purchasing it from us, the factory will furnish you a replacement valve.
Q. "If I order an ADA compliant pool shower that includes the foot shower, will the foot shower have the metered push-button valve, too?"
A.The ADA compliant foot-shower models come with push-button valves at both the main valve and at the foot shower valve. The hose bibbs and drinking fountains are push valve or lever handle (ADA compliant).
Q. "What is the difference between model PS-1000 and model BS-2000?"
A.The model BS-2000 is similar to model PS-1000, except it includes a foot shower. The foot shower reduces the amount of dirt, sand, grass, leaves, etc. that get tracked into your dwelling. The model BS-2000 is (almost) a must for beach and sandy areas.
Q. "How is the quality of these outdoor pool and beach showers?"
A.The stainless steel quality is incomparable. We expect these outdoor showers to outlast your swimming pool. Of course, during freezing conditions - as with all outdoor pipes - the pipes must be drained completely. No manufacturer warranties broken pipes or valves due to freezing.
Q. "How are these beach/pool showers attached to the plumbing water supply lines?"
A.These great pool and beach showers come with 1/2" x 12" stainless steel flex hose. They are connected by using standard 1/2" pipe. The water line should protrude about 1 1/2" out of the ground. Then it's simply a matter of connecting the two with a stainless steel braided hose. View stainless braided water supplies.
